Your privacy is very important to AFS and we would like to inform you about our data protection practices and obtain your consent before you inquire further.
Make sure that you carefully read the terms of the AFS privacy policy/es: http://afs.org/global-privacy-policy/ Our policy/es informs you about the personal information that we collect, how we use it and keep it safe, and the choices you can make about your personal information.
If you have any questions about the privacy practices of AFS Intercultural Programs, Inc. (the AFS umbrella organization based in New York) please contact us at privacy@afs.org, or contact your local AFS organization in your country if you have questions about its privacy practices.
A summary of our privacy policy/es is provided below.
- AFS collects and uses personally identifiable information (PII) that you submit;
- AFS collects and uses this PII for the purpose of addressing your inquiry, providing AFS services, for marketing and communication in relation to these services, and for performing research;
- For the purpose of providing its services, AFS may transfer this PII to AFS organizations and other parties involved in the provision of AFS services in your home country and in other countries;
- AFS transfers this PII across international borders to securely store this information in other countries. Currently those locations are in the United States of America, Germany and Thailand;
- You have the right to access and update your PII at any time;
- In some circumstances you have the right to request the erasure of your PII;
- AFS may use (third party) cookies and other similar techniques to obtain information from you when using the AFS websites in order to facilitate your use of these websites;
- If you are a minor and your parent’s/legal guardian’s consent is required for you to provide PII, ask for your parent’s/legal guardians for permission.
PII includes amongst other things your identity, your home and e-mail address, your date of birth, your (mobile) telephone number, schools and university attended, as well as answers to specific questions.

This summary does not replace the AFS privacy policy of AFS Intercultural Programs, Inc. not the privacy policies of AFS affiliated organizations operating AFS exchange programs.
You understand and accept that AFS may process your PII during the inquiry and application process and may transmit such data to third parties for any purpose reasonably required for the proper organization and fulfillment of the AFS program operations as detailed in the AFS privacy policy/es.
By accepting (clicking the acceptance button), you explicitly acknowledge that you carefully reviewed and you agree to the terms of the AFS privacy policy/es, and that AFS (AFS Intercultural Programs, Inc. and its affiliated organizations operating AFS exchange programs) are entitled to process the PII being provided by you in the manner described in such policies.
You accept that AFS may process your PII for any purpose reasonably required to address your inquiry and for the proper organization and fulfillment of the AFS program operations. You accept that AFS may process your PII for your further involvement and in order to keep in touch, until you notify AFS differently. You also understand that your PII will not be sold or otherwise transferred to third parties for any other purpose and that AFS will transfer and store your PII in central databases in multiple locations to ensure that the data is not lost. Currently those locations are in the United States of America, in Germany and in Thailand. These databases are restricted and can only be accessed by AFS employees, consultants, and volunteers who use such data exclusively for the management of AFS program operations.
You also accept that, in order to deliver its services, AFS may share some of your PII with third party vendors and consultants (such has website hosting and design providers and ICT services consulting firms) for the sole purpose of delivering their services to AFS. All such third parties agree to comply with applicable data protection and confidentiality laws in connection with providing their services to AFS.
AFS is committed to protecting minors who access and use AFS online application and other AFS online questionnaires and tools. If you are under age 13, please do not attempt to register for the AFS online application or AFS online questionnaire or provide any PII about yourself to us. If we learn that we have collected PII from a child under age 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
If you are a minor and parent’s/legal guardian’s consent is required for you to complete this online application, ask your parent’s/legal guardians for permission before sharing your information with us, and provide us with a copy of this permission upon our request. In this case AFS can also contact (for example via email) your parents or legal guardians to confirm their consent.
